To support building more housing faster and reducing associated costs and permitting time, WHRM has prepared a variety of fast-track housing plans for the public to use free of charge. Using fast-track plans can save time and costs associated with drawing custom plans. These plans include accessory dwelling units, single and two unit dwellings as well as a classic row house option. You can find the catalog of housing designs on our Housing Accelerator Fund page under Action #6. Building plans will be available upon request at the time of permitting.

Are you interested in environmental stewardship and community engagement? The GFL West Hants Landfill is seeing a volunteer to join its Community Liaison Committee.
This group provides a forum for open dialogue, shares updates, and gives an opportunity for local voices to be heard on landfill operations and environmental practices.

An appeal has been received for Council’s approval of rezoning PID: 45285103 Old Walton Road, Upper Burlington, Nova Scotia, from Open Space (OS) to Institutional (I) and a West Hants Land Use By-Law amendment to allow daycare centres as a permitted use in the Institutional (I) zone. The Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board has scheduled an Appeal Hearing to begin on May 25, 2025, at 10:00am, in the Council Chambers at 76 Morison Drive, Windsor.

We’ve received reports of individuals going door-to-door promoting home solar programs and claiming they are offered by the Municipality.
PLEASE NOTE:
West Hants Regional Municipality offers the Switch West Hants program, which helps finance energy efficiency upgrades, including solar.
Only contractors who are formally vetted and affiliated with the program are authorized to participate. If you’re unsure whether a contractor is affiliated with Switch West Hants, we encourage you to check first. Contact Switch West Hants at 902-601-1797 or email:

2025-2026 property tax rates can be found below. These tables display residential, resource and commercial rates by area for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
