WHRM strives to promote a sustainable community, now and for future generations. As a member of the Partners for Climate Protection program, West Hants Council approved the goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45% by 2030 and adopted a plan to reach that goal.

The GHG Emission Local Action Plan outlines action items to achieve the 45% reduction and start WHRM on the path to net-zero by 2050.

Climate action occurs in two (2) streams:

  • Mitigation – to reduce emissions from Municipal operations and throughout the community, to prevent worsening climate change; and
  • Adaptation – to change operations and infrastructure to adapt to the existing impacts of climate change, such as stronger and more frequent storms, flooding, and extreme heat.
