Consultative Process for Approval Under the Environmental Act

Green For Life (GFL) Environmental Inc. is proposing an expansion of the West Hants Landfill (1569 Walton Woods Rd, Centre Burlington, NS) under the Environmental Act and Activities Designation Regulations to extend its lifespan by approximately 19 years. The project would involve both horizontal and vertical expansions, as the facility nears its designed capacity. The expansion would add cells to the north, east, and west of the existing landfill and would include necessary infrastructure upgrades, such as replacing groundwater monitoring wells, expanding the sedimentation pond, and constructing new leachate and pretreatment ponds. The proposed vertical limit of the landfill would increase from 63.5 m to 68.5 m, with estimated footprint expansions of 44,300 m² (north), 67,000 m² (east), and 52,000 m² (west).
