Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
Effective as of February 1st, 2009, electronic waste cannot be buried in the landfill and is no longer collected at the roadside. View the full list of items.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
These materials must be taken to the HHW collection facility at the West Hants Landfill, 1569 Walton Woods Road, Cogmagun. This includes any flammable, combustible, corrosive and toxic products. Fridges and freezers, which contain freeon (CFCs), are included in this category.

Exceptions
- Completely empty aerosol cans can be accepted for garbage collection
- Completely empty, non-corrosive cleaning fluid bottles are accepted for recycling collection
Important: Do NOT empty any of these fluids down the drain or outside. These chemicals cannot be treated by the wastewater treatment facility.

Batteries
Batteries are another Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) that leach toxic contaminants into the surrounding environment and are commonly known to cause landfill fires.
As part of the Call2Recycle program*, batteries can be dropped off at the following locations in WHRM:
- Windsor Home Hardware - 50 Empire Lane, Windsor
- Payzants Home Hardware - 4060 Hwy1, Windsor
- O'Leary's Enviro Depot - 3 Bowman Rd, Garland's Crossing

Medical Waste
It’s extremely important to keep waste collection and sorting facility workers safe from medical waste of any kind, especially sharps! One prick from a needle will cost a worker up to a year of testing to confirm if any diseases were transmitted. Learn more at Don't Be a Prick.
Please contact your local pharmacy for safe sharps containers and details for their pharmacy return program.
For pets, ask your veterinarian about their return program.
Tires
Return up to four regulated used tires (off rim and free of mud and debris) to any tire retailer in the province during their regular business hours - free of charge.
Includes: Car and truck tires, motorcycle tires, camper tires and trailer tires
Off-road tires (e.g. four-wheelers) or small tires such as bicycle and lawnmower tires are not accepted at the GFL WH Landfill. At this time, all off-road tires must be taken to Kaizer Meadow or Valley Waste for disposal.
Fluorescent Tube Light Bulbs
These light bulbs contain high amounts of mercury, a toxic pollutant that threatens the health of humans, fish and other wildlife.
For proper disposal and recycling, drop your bulbs off at the West Hants Landfill HHW site, 1569 Walton Woods Road, Cogmagun.
