Plastiq is a third party automated payment service that accepts most major credit cards. Customers using this bill payment option will be charged by Plastiq a convenience fee of 2.49% on their property tax transactions and 1.75% on water bill transactions. The Municipality will use Plastiq for all credit card payments made on Municipal property taxes and water bills. For your convenience we will also continue to accept cash, cheque, debit, pre-authorized payments, Internet banking , and telephone banking.
What is Plastiq?
Plastiq is a secure, convenient, online option to pay your property tax and water bills using a credit card.
How do I use Plastiq?
Simply go to the West Hants webpage and follow the links OR go to Plastiq. Once there, follow the simple steps to make your payment.
The Municipality of West Hants will change to Plastiq starting Monday, June 1, 2015.
Is there a fee to use Plastiq?
Yes. Plastiq charges 2.49% of the total purchase price on property taxes and 1.75% of the total purchase price on water bills to process the credit card payment.
Who gets that fee?
Plastiq collects the fee as payment for providing the service. The Municipality of West Hants only gets what was billed to you. For example, if your property tax bill from the Municipality was $100, the total cost to you when using Plastiq would be $102.49. $100 of that payment goes to the Municipality and $2.49 goes to Plastiq.
Why the change?
Last year the Municipality of West Hants paid over $60,000 in credit card service fees. That’s an additional $7 on the average homeowner’s tax bill, yet only 20% of the households in West Hants pay their bills using a credit card. By moving to Plastiq, we can still provide the convenience of credit card payments while saving close to $50,000 in credit card fees with those savings directly benefitting all tax payers.
