Hantsport Willow & Main St. Island Replacement Capital Improvement Project
The Municipality of the District of West Hants has awarded a contract to Sheehy Construction to replace the island and curb at the intersection of Willow Street and Main Street in the community of Hantsport. The work includes two planned projects:
1. Replacement of the existing island and shrubs with a new grass-filled green space, including all new concrete curb and realigned diagonal concrete sidewalk connecting Willow Street to Main Street near HMCC, meeting requirements of the traffic authority. This includes sloped concrete aprons at each curb making the travel path fully accessible. Our plan is to redecorate the island by relocating the existing historic anchor and stone wall that are currently installed along the north side of Willow Street. This will improve the ability to maintain the overall appearance of the intersection; as a main entrance to the community, believe it will be very welcoming for all visitors and residents with the additional historical features.
2. Replacement of the existing asphalt curb and sidewalk along the south side of Willow Street adjacent to the HMCC grounds with new concrete curb and storm gutters. This will include reinstatement of affected residential properties with new topsoil and grass. This will improve storm water runoff along Willow Street and again will improve the overall appearance at the entrance to the community. Schedule: Construction is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to be completed by October. Hours of work will generally be from 7 am to 7 pm. While construction is ongoing, the work area may be limited to one lane of through traffic during work hours, causing some minor delays. It is anticipated that traffic control personnel will be utilized for the project.
