Employment Opportunity - Public Works
The Municipality of West Hants has a position available for a full time Operations and Maintenance Technician.
Simply stated the “Operations and Maintenance Technician” will perform a wide variety of duties relating to the communities’ water and wastewater systems. Such as daily inspection and maintenance of sewage pumping stations; water meter reading and repair; along with other related duties as required.
The successful candidate must be willing to obtain Water/Wastewater Qualifications in accordance with the Environment Act; hold a valid N.S. Driver’s License and be willing to follow all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. First consideration will be given to applicants with experience qualifications and post-secondary training in a similar field. Basic computer skills and mechanical background are a must. The minimum education requirement is Grade 12. Salary compensation is based on experience and qualifications.

Assessment Notices
The 2012 assessment notices were mailed by Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC) to property owners on January 16th, 2012. The market value assessment reflects the physical state of your property as of December 1, 2011, and is based on market value as of January 1, 2010. Under the Assessment Act the CAP is set at the Nova Scotia Consumer Price Index. For 2012, the CAP rate is set at 3.9%.
Property owners can obtain detailed information about their property by entering a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and their Assessment Number at www.pvsc.ca. The PIN Access Number can be found on the assessment notice below the Assessment Number. The Property Valuation Services Corporation will continue to offer internet PIN access to residential property owners. For the 2012 assessment roll, commercial property owners will also have internet PIN access.
If you have any questions about your notice or other assessment matters, please call PVSC at 1‐800‐380‐7775 or refer to their website at www.pvsc.ca.
If a property owner wishes to appeal their assessment, signed appeals must be received by PVSC no later than midnight on February 6, 2012. Appeals must be faxed (1-888-339-4555), mailed, or hand-delivered to a PVSC Office. Please refer to the back of your assessment notice for PVSC office locations or visit www.pvsc.ca.

IPSOS REED SURVEY
Municipal Survey for the Municipality of the District of West Hants
The municipality of West Hants is pleased to announce that a telephone survey will be done on a random sample of up to 300 adult residents in our community. This survey is being carried out by Ipsos Reed and will take place between February 1 and February 13, 2012. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. It will provide the municipality with valuable information on the physical activity levels of our citizens, barriers to participation and what services the municipality may be able provide to increase physical activity rates, particularly for inactive people. Questions will also be asked about physical activity for children and youth. Responses are anonymous and individual results will not be used in any way. The survey is sponsored in cooperation with the Department of Health Promotion and Protection.

Pre-Authorized Payments
The Municipality of the District of West Hants is pleased to provide residents in West Hants a Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) program to pay their property taxes and water bills by automatic withdrawal from their bank account.
You may begin registering for this program now. Please be aware the first withdrawal for this program will begin October 2011.
Copies of the enrollment form are available on our website (click here) as well as at the Municipal Complex, 76 Morison Drive.

2011 Provincial Volunteer
Warden Richard Dauphinee and Municipality of West Hants Provincial Representative Volunteer, Freeman Swinamer.
The photo was taken on April 4th after Freeman received this award at the Provincial Volunteer Awards Day Luncheon in Halifax. He along with 72 other community representative volunteers were presented with a framed certificate.Freeman was nominated by the Three Mile Plains Community Hall Association for his long time commitment to community volunteerism. Congratulations Freeman!
